If there was an open-world Valheim, how would you see it?

If there was an open-world Valheim, how would you see it?

You can play solo or together with your friends up to 10 players in a world.
But what about 32 players for example in one open-world feature (game-mode thing).
How would you see it and how do you think it will go?

Even with two people you can have problems with sleeping if one wants to keep going. 32 players would be pretty much impossible.

With that many people I can't see it working as people also like different things.. you would pretty much have to give up on rules like teleporting ores or world hopping.

In the end it would probably be best in a PVP format but personally I dislike that style of play and the people it tends to attract... so I wouldn't play it at all.

Well with 32 people you just wont skip night anymore like its in other multiplayer games.

Well this games online code or stability is to crappy to run a world like in other survival games.

Dont think it will ever officially happen soo not sure for what this disscussion is good for

Well lets just forget about that night-skipping then where people all have to go to bed and sleep. Instead of that Valheim would have a vote feature or something. An X amount of people that vote YES will skip the night.

I could see people building giant viking cities for sure. Or even perhaps people breaking off into clans and interacting through trade, alliances...perhaps even small wars.

Imagine territories that can be conquered and settled. Or even lost. Perhaps it doesn't even have to be to other players. Perhaps introduction of NPC clans that you can gain favor with, or even make enemies with would be enough to make things interesting.

NOT a PvPer by any means btw. Hence the NPC idea.

Although, I can do some serious damage to the countryside solo as far as mining and lumber jacking. Can't imagine the level of devastation with 32 people lol.

I like how 3 months after the Rust PvPers and streamers had a marathon conniption about the server capacity being too low, and their subsequent bannings/deletions, we're now like, "gosh what would it look like if the server capacity was higher?"

Sounds like a completely different game - besides everything in this game is made for a few player coop or solo play.

Sorry this isnt the game for that and many of the ideas stated in this thread simply arent realistic due to general limitations or due to the game not beeing made for that at all..

For example there is a reason why MMOs dont have much building or terraforming - if 200 people would start to terraform and build on a bigger scale it would only be a question of time until nobody can play the map anymore. Just look at your own small village etc. you build in the game and at the FPS-Drop - now imagine what would happen if hundreds of people would do that on one server.

Arent there enough games for that type of gameplay already - why are some people so eager to have every game to be so similar?

It would just be like Ark on a public server -- wards everywhere, spawn camping, resource scarcity, griefing, cheating... no thank you.

I read somewhere that the lead dev had originally envisioned this as a Fortnite type game. So maybe the EA PVE was just a great way to get millions of hours of play testing the environment / engine.

Resources are balanced for 1 player.
Even with the current limits there simply aren't enough resources to support everyone on nearby islands.

Putting in more people would just make it worse.

The world really isn't big enough for that many players.

I never play games on public servers anymore, so personally I wouldn't play on a server like this if it did exist. Am only interested in playing solo or with people I know.

It'd be fun to see a massive server like that

I see it as 32 chances to get one jerk who ruins the fun for everybody else. With today's odds you'll probably get more than one. I agree with Danson.

People who play with randos are already on here griping about how the experience goes wrong.

I also see it as the devs getting pulled into an endless battle of trying to mold the game into something that makes such a game-mode work successfully, a battle that can't be won because griefers, hackers and cheaters have unlimited resources and no rules.

But if I put on my rose colored glasses, it looks wonderful. Full of viking towns, forts and castles inhabited by vikings in families and tribes, with their own personal businesses bartering goods with each other. Skirmishes in bars over who's beard is the prettiest, only to be resolved by deciding to go Viking together and see who gets the biggest troll head. All in a perfect Valheim world, completely impenetrable by real world malicious intent.
