HOT HOT HOT

I wish that this game did not make my cpu run so hot. I'm using a i7-9950H, 16gb ram, rtx 2060 and it just burns the cpu like no other game. im guessing there is no real fix for this other than to wait for the game to become more optimized....?

While waiting on optimization, it might be a good idea to replace the thermal paste if your Temps are really bad.

Consider opening your PC case, and giving that heatsink a dusting.

My PC gets a cleaning every few months--and every time, after I'm done and close the case back up, its average running temp is several degrees lower.

If your PC is getting hot it's entirely a hardware issue. A properly built and maintained PC in a room temperature environment can run all process at 100% indefinitely while maintaining a safe, stable temperature.

I have an i9-9900k with an RTX 2080Ti that had a major heat problem. Was running max temp of 85 deg. I installed MSI Afterburner, jacked up my fans speed and locked my fps to 60. All is fine now. I run in the high 50's to 60's occasionally mid 70's degrees now. Seems the default fan speed is set more for the noise factor than for cooling.
edit. oops, misread cpu for gpu, but, this might help anyway.

A lot of the 9th gen CPUs run hotter than their stock heat sinks can support. If you are using the CPU fan that came with the chip (or what was in the PC when you bought it), you should consider replacing it with either a water cooler or a higher-end fan like a Noctua NH-D15. Both are pretty easy to install if you are comfortable with opening your case and can follow basic directions.

Airflow through the case is also critical to keeping things cool. Cold air through the front and bottom fans, hot air out the top and back. If you don't have fans on the four ends but your case supports it, they are very easy to install and inexpensive.

Combined, these will help to knock 10-20*C off of your running temps.

What else do you have running? There should be no reason you are running hot. Maybe look into your cooling system? Never hurts. I run a dedicated server, run the game and another server launched via the game and never go over 60 degrees on the CPU that I can remember... sitting at 53.8 right now with GPU at 59.7

Even if I run benchmarks for hours at 100% CPU and 100% GPU nothing ever goes over 75.

I'm running an i5 10400f 16gb and a 3060 ti. At 60 fps i never go over 38 °C. How many case fans do you have and you CPU cooling system?

This what happen when you buy Intel processors.
But honestly, i recommend you to change thermal paste.

In my experience, it happens with most processors if you use the heatsink and fan sold in the box with the CPU itself. Sufficient for spreadsheets and Solitaire--not much else.

Every PC I ever built, I bought and installed separate cooling.

So many people blame Valheim for heating up their PC. It's not Valheim. It's your hardware and airflow trying to tell you something. No amount of optimization is going to reduce temps. They are what they are because of your setup.

You could go crazy person like I have and mount some more fans into their PC in an attempt to cool the more critical parts. I did that and it works good. All my temps rarely go above 30c because I one night I got sick of high temps and just mounted fans everywhere temps were high. It's not quick or easy solution but and you end up with a Frankenstein PC, but on the plus side you get the future proof cooling you need.

Bottom line is case fans are much cheaper than burned out cpus and motherboards and heat issues in general. Order a bunch of 5 dollar case fans and plug them into your power supply. And the more cooling the better. Cooling extends the lifespan of everything in your pc. If you can live with the extra noise, well it's the sound of sustainability.

Lastly, get a few cans of spray air dusters and spray out ur pc. Don't get too agressive tho cuz I've actually wrecked my pc doing that.

I don't know...I just don't have this issue. I'm only running an i7-7700k, but I have MSI fan control on auto, and I never heard it spin up from slow speed yet.

It's a laptop so unless it's specifically designed as a desktop replacement (as in 17"+ with big fans and sufficient cooling), it will inevitably run hot. Opening it up and cleaning out the heatsinks is likely a good idea if you've never done that.

The chips are fragile. Do NOT run it to 200 degrees and then spray it with ICE COLD canned air. Turn it off. Let it cool -- for a good while -- then blow the air out. Or use a warm air blower, like a vac hooked up backwards (most support some sort of blower function and its warm because its designed to use the incoming air to cool the motor there too, in nommal mode, so the air after blowing is the exhaust port).

the computer should turn itself off long before any heat damage hits. Set it up this way, if it is not, should be a bios option. If it turns off repeatedly, find the issue (many ideas above) and fix it.
